At Jolesfield CE Primary School, we recognise the importance of Science in everyday life. As one of the core subjects, we aim to give Science the prominence it requires.
The learning in Science is concerned with increasing the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world with skills developed as a process of enquiry. We aim to develop the natural curiosity of our children, to encourage respect for living organisms and the environment as well as providing opportunities for critical evaluation of evidence.
At Jolesfield CE Primary School, our Science curriculum works alongside our school values of RAISE. Within the curriculum our children will be Respectful, Aim high, Independent, develop Skills for lifelong learning, and consider our Environment.
At Jolesfield CE Primary School, together with the aims of the National Curriculum, our science teaching is underpinned by our School Values:
Respect – Encourage respect for our living world. Respecting all scientific learners through listening to everyone’s questions and thoughts about the world. Working together scientifically to explore questions and using equipment.
Aspiration – Develop enthusiasm and enjoyment of scientific learning and discovery enabling learners to work hard. This could be shown through Including scientific language in their explanations and finding a way to explore answers to their questions.
Independence – Develop independent learners in exploring possible answers for scientific questions.
Skills for lifelong learning – Develop and use a range of skills including, observations, planning and carrying out investigations. Using a range of methods to communicate their scientific findings and presenting them in a systematic way, including written explanations, ICT, diagrams, graphs and charts.
Environment and community – Answer questions about how our world works enabling learners to show awareness to the environment.
